Triumphant Quartet has been traveling to Canada for many years. They have presented numerous concerts with Paul Hill and friends in the Ottawa area and across Ontario, while also becoming a staple at events throughout Western Canada. From experiencing Beavertails for the first time in the east to their first taste of Tim Hortons in the west, they’ve been hooked on these Canadian favorites.
These gentlemen graced the stage of the Camp Harmattan Gospel Weekend for approximately 10 years. It was always a wonderful weekend of camping, great food, memorable worship, and fellowship with both new and longtime friends.
They were also a regular part of Canada’s Gospel Music Celebration in Red Deer, Alberta—one of the country’s premier Southern Gospel conventions—appearing for the first time in 2003 and last taking the stage at the final event in 2019.
We asked Eric Bennett about some memories from those years, and he shared:
“One of the last years of Convention, we arrived but our luggage did not. We grabbed T-shirts from our product table and wore those with jeans. The people rallied around us and we ended up selling a huge amount of product.”
Each year at the convention, a special chapel service was held each morning featuring one of the groups. One morning while Jerry Goff was preaching, he asked Triumphant to sing the song “One Drop of Blood,” which he had written. It became a memorable moment—especially for Eric, since Jerry had been a great mentor to him.
Eric further reflected on the convention:
“Our greatest memory is the many friendships we made over the years. Some are now home with the Lord, some we see from time to time, and some we see often. It was the acceptance from these friends that formed lasting, lifetime friendships.”
David Sutton also reflected on what the Red Deer event meant to him:
“I’ve never been able to say thank you because COVID came and we never went back after 2019. That year I received a horrible phone call from home right before walking into the auditorium to perform. The call was that my daughter’s boyfriend—now my son-in-law—had gone into cardiac arrest on the lake while fishing at 21 years old. They didn’t know if Seth was going to pull through, and if he did, he would more than likely have permanent brain damage.
When Triumphant went on stage, the whole auditorium stopped everything that was going on and prayed over Seth. Long story short, Seth made it and is 100 percent okay. Since then, he and my daughter have married and had our first little grandbaby boy, Jack, and now our second grandbaby, Ella. Things could have gone a lot differently, but this wonderful memory of heartfelt prayer—and continued prayers—touched Heaven. So thank you to my Canadian friends… I love you all.”
After several years away, Triumphant is returning to Western Canada this spring.
We asked Eric what he was looking forward to most about returning to Western Canada. He shared:
“We are looking forward to introducing Sean to the people. We are confident that he will be loved on and that people will appreciate his ministry and testimony.”
Triumphant’s newest member, Sean Barber, also shared his excitement about the upcoming tour:
“I have been to Canada several times and experienced its beautiful country. However, I have not been to the western side, and I’m looking forward to meeting some new friends.”
We also asked what audiences can expect when Triumphant takes the stage this spring. Eric explained:
“We have a lot of new music which is more worship-centered. We have always preached the salvation message and given people an opportunity to respond. Today, with all that is happening in our world, we share that message with a sense of urgency. The Lord’s return could be very soon, and we don’t want people to miss Him.”
David added:
“I’m looking forward to reuniting with so many people. I can honestly say that Camp Harmattan and Red Deer were two of our favorite places we went every year. We made so many friends there, and we have truly missed each of you.”
When we asked Sean what else audiences could expect, he added:
“An evening of true worship—and failing badly to keep Michael Booth in check.”
Yes, Michael Booth will be joining the tour, and he shared his excitement about being on the road with Triumphant:
“This is so exciting for me to be a part of. I love all the guys in that entire organization. They are genuinely friends, so I’m looking forward to all the time together and getting to parts of the country to see people we don’t get to see very often.”
After several years away, it truly is a Triumphant return to Western Canada, and audiences across the prairies are looking forward to welcoming these friends back once again.
