For our September installment of Passing the Mic, I was honored to interview Casey Wolfe, daughter of Gerald and Donna Wolfe. Casey serves as office manager for Greater Vision, and she is one of the kindest, most encouraging young adults that one could ever meet. I have enjoyed getting to know Casey over the last couple of years, and I am thankful for the opportunity to help our readers learn more about her in this month’s issue.
Scott Bouldin: You have literally grown up surrounded by Southern Gospel Music. Can you share with us some of your earliest memories growing up as a part of the Greater vision family?
Casey Wolfe: When the National Quartet was in Louisville, KY, I was about 6-8 years old. I would find empty booth spaces close to the Greater Vision Booth to play in with Rodney’s daughters, Reagan and Riley. Sometimes we would color on notebook paper and sell our artwork for a quarter! When we were not playing, you could always find me near the Main Stage. I always enjoyed listening to all the groups perform and seeing the iconic lights around the stage!
SB: What led to you becoming the office manager for Greater Vision?
CW: At the beginning of 2020, our office manager of about 10 years decided to resign. I was 17 at the time and had started looking for my first job, but I did not know what I was going to do yet. I remember being in the kitchen with my dad one day, and he asked me, “Do you know how to work the office?” I already knew a little bit, because helping fill orders was one of my favorite things to do. So, with the remaining time our office manager had with us, she taught me everything else I needed to know and made the transition very easy. By my first day, I knew being in the office was what I was meant to do. It is truly amazing how God can prepare you for something your entire life, but you don’t realize it until you fully step into that season. I am so grateful that God has allowed me the opportunity to work for my dad. I’m so blessed!
SB: What are some of the most challenging (and rewarding) aspects of your job as office manager?
CW: Everyone who knows me knows that I am probably the most shy person on the planet. Now that I am Greater Vision’s office manager, I have to talk to people every single day! I think that alone is the most challenging, yet rewarding thing about my job. It challenges me to step out of my comfort zone, which can be rewarding, and it has been! I have grown more comfortable with being behind the product table and talking to people, and I am loving every minute of it!
SB: Gerald is a cornerstone of the Southern Gospel music genre. What are some lessons that you have learned from watching him as a leader?
CW: My dad has always been one of my greatest role models. One of the best things he has taught me lately is, “You don’t get to choose your circumstance, but you can choose how to respond”. Life has its way of throwing things in our face that can deeply discourage us, but if we can choose to respond with a positive attitude, God can, and will, use that situation for our good and His glory.
SB: Your mom, Donna, has been a critical part of Greater Vision’s ministry over the years from behind the scenes. What have you learned from her as you have watched her support your dad while he is on the road?
CW: Donna Wolfe is truly the strongest woman I know. Just watching how she cared for my brothers and me while dad was on the road encouraged me to want to be a mother someday. When dad is at home, she is running around in circles, making sure all of us have everything we need, and making sure Greater Vision has everything they need before they leave out again. The older I get, the more I understand why dad chose to marry her. She is the most encouraging, hard working, and supportive person you will ever meet. I am so grateful God chose her to be my momma!
SB: This is probably a question you’ve been asked a lot over the years, but do you sing or play any instruments?
CW: Yes! I do enjoy singing, although it’s only in my car, or at church. As for instruments, I tried taking piano lessons when I was younger, but never caught on to it, and I honestly regret it. However, I did start playing the ukulele a few years ago and I’ve really enjoyed that!
SB: What is your favorite Southern Gospel event to attend, and why?
CW: The National Quartet Convention was always my favorite event while growing up…and even more so now because it is closer to our home since it moved to Pigeon Forge, TN. All of my friends are in the industry, so NQC is the only time I get to see all of them at one time. My birthday also falls around that time as well (Sept. 30th). So now we just call it my birthday week, and It’s literally my favorite thing ever!
SB: When you are not working, what are your favorite ways to pass the time?
CW: I always enjoy relaxing at home, or spending time with my friends whenever I get a chance to see them. I also enjoy a little bit of shopping at TJ MAXX or my personal favorite, Altar’d State. They have the best jewelry!
SB: What is your favorite non-Greater Vision song and your favorite song from the Greater Vision catalog?
CW: Recently, I have been listening to the Mylon Hayes Family’s new project “Sing His Praise!” and one song I keep going back to is “My Lord Will Send A Moses”. I just think that song is so fun! As for a Greater Vision song, I would have to say “As We Speak”. It was the last song my dad recorded, and I love the message of the song. It holds a very special place in my heart.
SB: Who are some artists who have taken the time to encourage and mentor you throughout your life being a part of the Gospel Music industry?
CW: God has truly blessed me with a community of people who have encouraged me throughout my life. In the season of life that I am currently in, Wendy and Kennedy Hayes, Maria Kramer Wolfe, Susan Whisnant, Melissa Brady, Gary Casto, and Trevor Conkle have really been an encouragement to me lately. They have taken time out of their busy schedules to sit and talk with me, sometimes for hours. I am so grateful for each of them. True friends are such a blessing!
SB: The young generation of Southern Gospel music artists and family members is a tight knit group. What does it mean to you to be a part of that family?
CW: Growing up in public school, it was really hard for me to make friends. My life was different from everyone else’s due to the different experiences that I had. On top of being shy, it was just hard for me to find things in common with other kids. That is why being a part of this industry has been the biggest blessing to me. It means so much when I get to meet other young people who enjoy the Gospel Music industry as much as I do. Now, I can finally say, “I’m not the only one!”.
SB: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 
CW: To be honest, at one point, I thought I had everything figured out, but God recently reminded me that His plans are better than anything I could imagine for myself. As I wait for His perfect timing, I will just enjoy the life I have now with the people that God has blessed me with during this season.
SB: Would you have any words of encouragement for our young readers who might look to you as an example?
CW: There are so many things I could talk about, but to summarize: Be yourself and be kind to others. Don’t let anyone take you for granted. True friends will love you regardless of who you are, or what you do. Life is far too short to worry about what level of status you or someone else has, or to be jealous of others for reasons that don’t even matter! We are all family, so let’s always be kind and encouraging to one another!
